Gerber Road Project to finish!
On Tuesday, March 3, 2009, Edwardsville City Council approved the engineering portion of Gerber Road Phase 4. This will complete the construction of the curving road that connects East Lake Drive to Franklin Avenue. The engineering portion of this project is set at $181, 935, which is a budgeted part of the $1.5 million project. The cost is divided between $600,000 in federal funds, $325,000 in county funds, and $575,000 from the city. Gerber road is one of several projects to be completed in Edwardsville by the summer. SIUE Vadalabene Center Renovations Completed
Renovations to the SIUE Vadalabene Center have been completed. The renovation of the Vadalabene Center has allowed the construction of classrooms, offices, and storage space. This $6 million renovation also allowed for the replacement of flooring and seating. The developers for this project are Bozoian, EDM, and Woolpert. This project was finished on December 2008. Funds for Glen Crossing Road
Funding for Phase two of the Glen Crossing Road has been approved! Phase Two of this project will rebuild the Glen Crossing Road from east of the Waterford Street to the Cassens Elementary School. Phases one and three were completed last summer. The total budget for this project is set at $2,317, 293. However, the budget will be split between the Illinois Department of Transportation, Madison County, and the village. The state’s share is $1,512, 993, the county’s share is $268,100, and the village will pay $536, 200. Source Belleville New-Democrat January 28, 2009
SIUE Opens New Science Lab
Due to the increasing numbers of enrollment in science classes, SIUE has decided to open two new biological labs. SIUE is also moving its Geographic Information Systems labs to this new, but temporary facility in University Park. The labs budget was set at $1.8 million, and it was done for $1.3 million. Wide Technology to locate in
Lakeview Commerce Center
World Wide Technology recently contracted for a 700,000-square-foot
facility in Edwardsville's Lakeview
Commerce Center. The build-to-suit facility will
bring Lakeview's building count to four, totalling
2.3 million square feet according to Lakeview's developer,
Panattoni
Development Company. Lakeview Commerce Center
is a 700-acre industrial park located in an Enterprise
Zone with several incentives available from the state
of Illinois.

Procter and Gamble to expand
in Gateway Commerce Center
On Wednesday,
April 30, Procter and Gamble (P & G) signed a
six-year, 1.2 million-square-foot lease with Trammell
Crow Company in Gateway
Commerce Center, reinforcing Gateway
Commerce Center and the Edwardsville-Glen Carbon area
as one of the premier logistics locations in the nation.
P & G will be moving product into two existing
500,000-square-foot buildings, Westway I and Westway
III, in May of 2008. Contegra
Construction Company has been contracted to expand
Westway III to 1,157,000 square feet, allowing P &
G to consolidate its warehousing and customization
operations into one buiding.
"This announcement reinforces that Edwardsville
is a prime location for logistics in the United States,"
said Edwardsville Mayor Gary Niebur. "We welcome
the opportunity to put our citizens to work and increase
their quality of life."

Edwardsville City Council approves fourth
TIF plan for North Main Street area
The Edwardsville City Council recently voted
to approve the fourth tax increment financing (TIF)
plan for the oldest area of Edwardsville, running
north on Main Street from the intersection of St.
Louis Street and East College to the intersection
of Illinois Route 159 and Old Alton Edwardsville Road.
The new TIF district is expected to lead to almost
$10 in improvements to the downtown area in the form
of infrastructure improvements and the improvement
of the North Main streetscape. The City of Edwardsville
currently has three TIF districts: TIF I and TIF II
in the downtown area, and TIF III at Gateway
Commerce Center.

SIUE to Invest $63 Million in School Projects
Southern Illinois University
Edwardsville has announced it is investing more
than $63 million in 13 projects over the next year
and a half. In August, the second phase of a $10.8
million housing project should be complete. The $10.5
million expansion of the Student Fitness Center and
the $16.6 million Student Success Center are planned
to begin in March 2008 and should be completed by
May 2009. Also targeted for completion in the coming
months is the $10 million Wrestling and Volleyball
Center; the $1.6 million renovation of the University
Center Bookstore; a $6 million renovation to the Vadalabene
Center gymnasium and a $2 million renovation and expansion
of the Early Childhood Center.

Turner Electric to Build Plant
in Edwardsville
Turner Electric LLC is in the process of building
a new 65,000-square-foot manufacturing plant and headquarters
in Edwardsville at Gateway
Commerce Center. Contegra
Construction Company will handle the $4 million
project for the designer and manufacturer of air-break
switches and substantiation switching apparatuses.
The new building is expected to be completed early
in 2008.
Meridian Centre Two Now Complete in Glen Carbon
The $2.1 million Meridian Centre Two office building
has been completed on Illinois Route 157 in Glen Carbon.
The three-story building, which is a mirror image
of Meridian Centre One, adds 25,000 square feet of
professional office space to the community.
SIUE Gets Approval for Student Academic Center
Southern Illinois University’s Board of Trustees
recently approved the final budget for the construction
of the new Student Academic Success Center on campus.
The estimated $16.6 million project, funded through
student fees, is expected to begin in spring 2008
with a target completion date of June 2009. The 66,000-square-foot
center will serve residential students who need academic-student
support services. In other SIUE
news, a $10.5 million expansion of the student fitness
center was approved and is expected to be completed
by May 2009. It will add office space and several
multipurpose rooms.

Expansion at Eden Village Retirement Center
Underway
The Eden Village Retirement Center
in Glen Carbon is expanding its 40-year-old retirement
community by constructing an additional senior living
building for its residents. The new $20 million facility
is expected to open in mid-November 2008 and will
feature 82 one- and two-bedroom apartments. All of
Eden’s buildings will connect, allowing residents
to walk about freely without having to go outside.
